The world is witnessing an immense growth in mp3 downloads presently. Many experts feel that the reason for this is the increase in number of the music lover. People are gradually shifting away from the CD music because mp3 downloads give a much wider option. Without having to spend money on buying the entire album, music lovers are able to download the songs of their choice for a very nominal fee. More and more web sites are taking advantage of this change to increase their sales and traffic. They are making available individual songs from each album for downloading purposes for a fraction of the amount which one spends to buy the whole CD.Here is a list of 10 sites where you can download free and legal mp3s.

  1. iLike is a social music site which allows you to discover new music with a little help from your friends. Free downloads and the buddy system, what could be better?
  2. Altsounds has a lot of streaming content, but there are quite a few quality mp3 downloads mixed in, including bands like Anberlin, Panic at the Disco, 10 Years, and Underoath.
  3. bt.etree.org tracks live recording torrents of “bootleg friendly” bands. You’ll be able to find all kinds of FLAC downloads from performers like Ben Harper, Jerry Garcia, Blues Traveler, Trey Anastasio (I smell a trend here, or at least some patchouli), Radiohead, Primus, and even Tenacious D.
  4. Unsigned Band Web is a place for, well, unsigned bands to share their music and get noticed. Just about every genre you can imagine is offered here, and they maintain charts to show you what’s hot. Apparently electronica is hot. Maybe I’ll stick to genre browsing. Bottom line: tons of free mp3s to download.
  5. Soundclick’s music page will hook you up with a ton of downloads, including more unsigned acts - like my favorite new addiction: German hip hop. I blame my scarf-wearing co-worker.
  6. Honc “if you love music. The site isn’t much to look at, but there’s still more undiscovered goodness to be found here.
  7. Garage Band is also worth checking out for more diamonds in the rough. Rub it in your friends’ faces that you “heard them first.”
  8. Indie Rock Cafe offers more up-ad-coming music, blog style. There’s no centralized download page, so you’ll find the tracks sprinkled around the blog post.
  9. DMusic has been offering indie musicians a chance to be heard since 1998. Top 20 charts are maintained for each of the 20+ main genres (which are broken down into several sub-genres as well).
  10. Fuzz offers - oh crap - a mixtape feature. The interface is cool as hell, and there’s a ton of great, free music to discover on the site.

In his first interview since being acquitted of child pornography charges, R. Kelly dismissed allegations that he ever preyed on young girls, telling BET News: “I don’t like anyone illegal.”

Kelly also said he was relieved when the trial was over, and that his upcoming album would feature less of the sexually charged material that has come to define his multiplatinum career.

“I’m really trying to make this album … a little bit different,” he said in an interview that aired on the network on Tuesday. “Take a little bit of the edge off, you know? And you know, clean up a few lyrics if I can, you know?”

When asked if he liked teenage girls, Kelly replied: “When you say teenage, how — how old are we talkin’ … 19?”

“I have some 19-year-old friends,” he added. “But I don’t like anybody illegal, if that’s what we’re talking about, underage.”

The Madonna and Britney Spears bandwagon rolls on!

Spears not only appears in a video montage shown during Madonna’s latest concert tour, but she’s also a source of inspiration in Filth and Wisdom, Madge’s feature-film directorial debut about a ragtag group of friends struggling through life in England.

I won’t give too much away (the movie comes out Oct. 17), but I will tell you that a pivotal scene involves a stripper dancing to Spears’ “Baby One More Time.” And yes, said stripper is even wearing—what else?—a skimpy school uniform and pigtails just like Britney wore in the song’s now classic music video.
